Graphic Storyteller Residency Abroad

  • In 2024, three graphic storytellers from Bucheon participated in residencies in Quebec City, Melbourne, and Barcelona.

    In April, Han Dong-hyuck participated in the Melbourne Parallel Panels residency, as part of a one to one residency exchange project between Bucheon and Melbourne. During the residency, HAN Donghyuk actively engaged and shard his work with local graphic novelists such as Rachel Ang, Bernard Caleo, Stacy Gougoulis, Sarah Firth, David Blumenstein, Jess Parker and Alex Clark. He also attended local festivals and explored local comic and art institutions. Last year, Bucheon hosted Melbourne graphic storyteller, Rachel Ang.

  • In April, PARK Joohyun participated in the Quebec Residency program. During the residency, Park JooHyun worked on a full-length graphic novel manuscript, a follow-up story of her Gregg and the Chick. She attended Quebec Comics festival, and got connected with international writers in residence who also were there.

In May, Alfie Lee, a graphic novelist from Bucheon participated in Barcelona’s International literary residency, as part of the UNESCO Cities of literature Circular Residency Project. During the residency, Alfie Lee attended Barcelona Comics Festival and exhibition, actively exploring Barcelona’s comics culture and networking with local artists.
