2024 Bucheon Residency

Bucheon Residency for overseas authors connected to the UNESCO Cities of Literature.

Bucheon provided two residencies for Pierre Bisiou from France, and Mike Meginnis from the United States of America. The residency offered cultural programs tailored to the connections between Bucheon, South Korea and the creative worlds of the selected artists.

In 2019, he created Matin Calme, a publishing house specializing in Korean literature, publishing books of the authors like Seo Mi-ae and Kim Un-su.

Together they have translated the works of Han Kang, Chung Bora, Cho Nam-joo, Lee Mi-ye, Jeong You-jeong, Kim Un-su, Haiilji, Kim Young-ha, and others. He participated in the Bucheon Residency from November 16th, 2004 to January 4th. 2025.

After the announcement of Han Kang's Nobel Prize win, Bisiou facilitated a cultural workshop in Bucheon in which he discussed Korean literature in France. Bisiou shared his expertise, answering questions from participants and providing insights about how Korean literature continues to gain global attention.

At the end of December, Mike Meginnis presented to a group of high school girls about the ways in which writing practices can make our lives more beautiful.
